Workshop in Shanghai
On the first day my workshop is a new trial to make a huge collaboration work with all my guests. This is the work we finished to make.
I found many bunches of chopsticks at a local flower market and they were a key to be lead to a new idea. Each guest make a geometric shape with combining colorful chopsticks. One shape is already completed structure, but if we mix them all, the structure gets more creative and powerful.
Firstly I explained how to make an interesting geometric structure with sticks. Then guests start to make each different shape. No similar structure can be made. That is the most important point. Each one is different and each one is beautiful.

All the guests pile up their own structure, then I combines them with flowers.
I really appreciate my guests as they are earnest to learn.
Thinking a total balance, the chopstick structure are added more and more.

The first workshop was finished happily.
On the second day each guest tries to make each individual work.
They are really curious about Kenzan ( Japanese needle-pin holder)
I could get a lot of Kenzan at a local flower market. They are already famous in China, but it is difficult to know how to use that correctly.
The first theme is to be concious about lines. Lines are most important elements in Ikebana world and we always pay close attention to lines of plants.。
I selected horsetail as flower materials to show lines easily.
The point is how to maximize the characteristic of horsetail lines.
They are really focusing on each flower materials.
Well Done!! All guests made fantastic Ikebana works.
The second theme is curved lines.
If we trim off excess twigs and leaves, Siberian Dogwood can be a straight line.
We make a curved line from Siberian Dogwood straight line with a special technique.
Chatting with my guests are also interesting and a great fun.
Completed splendid Ikebana works are on a desk and it’s a fantastic scene.
