Ikebana for Netflix drama “Tokyo Swindlers”
I was in charge of the Ikebana flower arrangement! Netflix “Tokyo Swindlers”
Streaming starts on Friday, July 25th! Please check it out!
Actors Go Ayano and Etsushi Toyokawa star in the Netflix series “Tokyo Swindlers” (7 episodes in total), a live-action adaptation of the novel by Kou Shinjo and directed by Hitoshi Ohne. The detailed roles and brilliant methods of a group of “land fraudsters” who scam out 10 billion yen!
A little bit of footage from episode 1 has been released.
Flower arrangements are also shown!
The theme is exactly that: “The flowers of evil bloom.”
The flowers are set in a high-class restaurant where the members hold their evil meetings.
Since I’ve immersed myself in the flowers, I feel like I’m taking part in their evil schemes.

These are the flowers behind Kitamura Kazuki.
On top of a shelf that was quickly arranged during shooting, I am always nervous because people often say to me, “I want something here after all!”
The highlight was the scene where Pierre Taki and Makita Sports had a secret conversation at a teppanyaki restaurant.
It really took a whole day to film that scene. Makita Sports was always chewing steak while talking, so I imagine it must have been tough for him to be chewing meat all day. I’m sure he won’t want to eat meat for a while.

This angle is a little to the side. I realized on the spot that the camera would be filming from this angle, so I suddenly put in a lot of effort into getting this angle.
You don’t know where the camera will come from until the day itself, so filming is truly a living thing.

Since flowers are essentially 3D, there are some aspects that are hard to convey in a photo, so I recommend watching a video as well.

Filming of movies and dramas is really made possible by the efforts of many staff members. The power of each person to create something comes together, and it feels like a “festival.”
The scene with Makita Sports and Pierre Taki was at a famous teppanyaki restaurant in Roppongi. At the end, we were given some meat that was left over from filming.
The fraudsters gather at a high-end Chinese restaurant in Azabu. But the lighting was prepared by the art department, and it was a beautiful chandelier.
For every shoot, the lighting team removes the existing lighting and quickly replaces it with the lighting prepared by the art team, so I always look up and admire how amazing it is.
It’s like doing a renovation in one day!

The process of filming a drama from the art side
1
Perfectly prepare the space
2
The actor comes in and moves while saying his lines (in the industry this is called “dandori”).
The actor just becomes the character and moves. Up until this stage, I have no idea how the actor will move.

Once the actors’ performances have been decided, the director decides how to shoot the scene, the positions of the camera and lighting, and the order in which to shoot.
4
The art direction is constantly being revised in preparation for the scheduled shoot.
So, at number 4, they think, “Oh, we really want flowers here.” This is where my adrenaline pumps the most.
Because I’m asked to put something completely unexpected.
All of the staff are on the move for the sake of creating a wonderful picture!
This time, it was decided that “we really need flowers in the background of the chef,” and hmm, there were no more vases that would fit. There were only a few flower materials left.
But, they said, “It’s okay because you can’t see the bottom. Just get going!”, so I ended up putting them in the bucket. Arranging these flowers was the most frantic thing to do. There was also no time.

I put a long wire inside the horsetail.
I prepared about 200 horsetails. The day before, I was steadily putting wires into all of them, and Momotaro(my cat) was very interested.

The host appears in the story, and this flower is inspired by him. It is displayed in a certain hotel room.
This drama is already a hot topic.
Once I started watching the first episode, I couldn’t stop and watched it all the way through to the end.
